Description
The Lagavulin 16 Years Old Single Malt Whisky 43% is one of the most iconic whiskies from the Isle of Islay and is considered one of the most important classics in the Scottish single malt world. The malt used for production is kiln-dried over peat fires with a high smoke content, which creates the characteristic aromatic intensity in the early stages. Distillation is particularly gentle in the distillery's pear-shaped stills so that as many flavours as possible reach the condensers, giving the whisky its exceptional depth. Lagavulin is then matured for 16 years in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, which contributes significantly to its distinctive style of powerful peat smoke, subtle sweetness and maritime accents.
The distillery's proximity to the coast also characterises the maturation process and gives the whisky the typical notes of iodine, seaweed and salt for which Lagavulin is widely known. Its long-lasting structure, the combination of intense smokiness and fine wood nuances as well as the traditional craftsmanship make this Islay single malt a benchmark within its category. The Lagavulin 16 Years Old is presented in a high-quality gift box that stylishly emphasises its classic character.
