Description
The Manner who finally gave his initials to the house is also the man to whom we can thank for the iconic cuvée. "Only the best" was the only motto that drove the winemaker Georges Hermann Mumm. In 1876, as a tribute to wine, Mumm decided to use a red silk ribbon as an ornament for the bottle. It serves as a symbol for the highest French honours, the royal "Ordre et Militaire de Saint Louis" and the "Grand Cordon de la Légion d'Honneur". Just as Champagne was to the sovereign, so great was the fame of the Cordon Rouge wine, making it the symbol of the House and of Champagne as a whole.
