Copper Dog Speyside Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a characterful blended malt Scotch whisky that combines the rich whisky heritage of Scotland’s Speyside region with a modern interpretation. At 40% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle, this whisky brings together eight different Speyside single malts, which are carefully blended. The distilleries used include Knockando, Inchgower and Roseisle, amongst others. The idea behind Copper Dog was conceived in 2014, when Piers Adam drew inspiration from the legendary history of the smuggling tool of the same name and set out to create a whisky that reflects the spirit of historic Speyside.


The name ‘Copper Dog’ derives from a copper pipe that distillery workers and smugglers used in the past to secretly siphon small quantities of whisky from the warehouses. Particularly at the Craigellachie Hotel Pub – a popular meeting place for whisky distillers since 1893 – this untaxed whisky was enjoyed alongside officially served whisky. This story harks back to a time when Speyside was characterised by numerous illegal distilleries and whisky was frequently smuggled due to high taxes. Today, the Copper Dog Speyside Blended Malt stands as a tribute to this past and to the people who shaped the region’s whisky tradition.

Before blending, the individual Speyside single malts are matured in various types of casks, including refill American oak barrels, first-fill bourbon casks, European oak casks and rejuvenated casks. They are then slowly blended together in old oak casks, resulting in a particularly harmonious and balanced blended malt whisky. Each bottling bears the Master Blender’s signature on the label, along with the respective batch date, thereby emphasising the artisanal quality of this special composition.
