Description
Togouchi is produced by Chugoku Jozo, a distillery in the city of Togouchi in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The distillery is located in a natural cave system that was originally built as a railway tunnel, but was later converted into an ideal environment for maturing whisky. The cool, damp conditions in the tunnels provide an optimal climate for maturing whisky, resulting in a product that is rich in flavour and character.
Disused railway tunnels are used as "cellars" for the maturation of Togouchi whiskies. The temperature in the Togouchi tunnel, which is 362 metres long, is a constant 15 degrees, while the temperature at the headquarters in the town of Hatsukaichi is slightly higher. According to the distillery, not all Japanese people love the taste of peat, so the imported Scotch whiskies are blended to create a harmonious, balanced and mild pure malt.
These unique maturation conditions in the railway tunnels allow the whiskies to develop their characteristic flavours optimally and offer a harmonious taste experience that perfectly meets the preferences of Japanese whisky drinkers.
