In the picturesque landscape of Riegersburg in Styria, Alois Gölles is the third generation to run the traditional family fruit-growing business. After graduating from the renowned Federal College for Wine and Fruit Growing in Klosterneuburg, he dedicated himself to refining his parents' harvest of apples, pears, plums and peaches. He began distilling fine brandies in 1979, followed by the founding of his high-quality vinegar factory in 1984. Today, the range includes around twenty fine brandies and just as many types of vinegar, which are regularly recognised.

The "Ron Johan Rum" is characterised by its unique origin: It is distilled in Styria, with the molasses required for production sourced from Brazil, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic. Another striking feature of this rum is the label on the bottle, which depicts the pirate Black Beard and the Austrian Erzherzog Johann. The rum is also dedicated to the latter, which gives it a special cultural and historical dimension.

This dark, strong Ron Johan Rum is made from sugar cane molasses and is characterised by its strong profile. It is bottled at cask strength, which emphasises its intense fullness of flavour. It is matured in a combination of new and used American white oak and ex-bourbon barrels. A special feature is the "dirtier" fermentation and distillation process, which is rich in ester notes. The selection of molasses from different countries gives the rum a multi-layered flavour that makes it a unique pleasure.
