The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, still preserves many traditional methods in its production process. For example, the barley is still grown on site and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor - a rarity in the modern whisky industry. In addition, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers who are responsible for maintaining and repairing the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the maturation process.

The Balvenie STORIES bottlings are based on stories that are passed down from generation to generation. For the creation of The Balvenie A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores, Malt Master David C. Stewart and the entire whisky team gathered in Balvenie's Sample Room. Inspired by John Barrett's idea to include Caroni rum in the production process, a large quantity of this rare rum was ordered and stored.

Five years later, Malt Master Stewart decided to mature Balvenie whisky in casks that previously contained Caroni rum. The result is a unique Caroni cask finish that has never been experienced before in this form.
