Description
Leo Hillinger is a visionary entrepreneur and winemaker whose passion for viticulture has brought him international recognition. His winery, which today covers an impressive 100 hectares of vineyards, is known for its excellent wines not only in Austria, but worldwide. These wines find their way to over 20 countries around the world, which emphasises the global presence and popularity of the Hillinger brand. Hillinger's focus on sustainable cultivation practices and organic production contributes significantly to the exceptional quality and purity of its wines.
After years of training in Europe and California, Hillinger bought 12 hectares of vineyards, laying the foundations for his successful winery in Jois, which opened in 2004. The company expanded to include several wine shops and bars throughout Austria and a long-standing business relationship with the Constantia Glen winery in South Africa. In 2012, Hillinger was honoured by Ernst & Young as "Entrepreneur of The Year", underlining its outstanding role in the wine industry.
Hillinger Hill Natural is grown on limestone and slate soils and consists of a blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Gris, 10% Pinot Blanc and 10% Grüner Veltliner. Fermentation takes place at 16 °C in stainless steel tanks, followed by two months of ageing on the fine lees.
After fermentation, part of the wine is stored in used French oak barrels on the full lees, while another part is decanted and further matured on the fine lees. The wine has a storage potential of five years and is sealed with a natural cork.
