Description
In 1975, Gérard Bertrand began his grape harvest at Château de Villemajou in the Corbières, where he discovered his passion for wine. Over the course of twelve years, he honed his skills alongside his father Georges Bertrand until the fourth generation finally carried on the legacy. After the tragic death of his father in 1987, Gérard Bertrand took over the family management of the Domaine de Villemajou and founded the Gérard Bertrand wine company. The Gérard Bertrand Group comprises 16 wine estates and 16 châteaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, covering a total of 850 hectares. Some of the hand-harvested grapes are matured in 225-litre Bordeaux barrels, while the rest is stored in stainless steel tanks.
Clos du Temple was voted the best rosé wine in the world at the Global Rosé Masters of Drinks Business 2022. Harvesting is done by hand in crates at sunrise to take advantage of the lower night-time temperatures, and each parcel is harvested at the optimum time and vinified separately. After fermentation at low temperature, clarification takes place between 8 and 10 °C for 24 hours without the addition of sulphites before the wine is matured in new barrels. These barrels were carefully selected according to the origin of the wood. This rosé spends six months on the fine lees, with constant lees stirring.
