Description
In 1975, Gérard Bertrand began his grape harvest at Château de Villemajou in the Corbières, where he discovered his passion for wine. Over the course of twelve years, he honed his skills alongside his father Georges Bertrand until the fourth generation finally carried on the legacy. After the tragic death of his father in 1987, Gérard Bertrand took over the family management of the Domaine de Villemajou and founded the Gérard Bertrand wine company. The Gérard Bertrand Group comprises 16 wine estates and 16 châteaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, covering a total of 850 hectares. Some of the hand-harvested grapes are matured in 225-litre Bordeaux barrels, while the rest is stored in stainless steel tanks.
Gérard Bertrand Limoux Chardonnay Domaine de L'Aigle is an outstanding white wine made exclusively from hand-picked Chardonnay grapes. As soon as the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, they are carefully transported to the winery, where they undergo gentle pneumatic pressing in order to preserve the quality of the must as much as possible. Before alcoholic fermentation begins, the must is cooled and allowed to settle. Part of the wine is fermented in oak barrels, where complete malolactic fermentation takes place, giving the wine its fine texture. After a maturation period on the fine lees, the wine is bottled and sealed with a natural cork.
