Description
Description
The Naturae Syrah 2023 from Gérard Bertrand is a single-varietal organic red wine that impressively demonstrates how much character and depth a wine can develop without the addition of sulphur. As part of the renowned Naturae Linie, this wine stands for completely natural vinification without any oenological additives or sulphur (SO₂) - a milestone in modern organic winemaking. It comes from selected vineyards in the Languedoc region of southern France, where Syrah finds ideal conditions: a sunny, dry climate, diverse soils and great biodiversity.
Winemaking begins with an extremely precise selection of the plots, in which the health, ripeness and vitality of the vines are decisive. According to the winegrower, around 90% of the quality is created in the vineyard. The grapes are harvested in a very narrow harvest window in order to achieve the optimum balance between acidity, sugar and tannin structure. After complete destemming, the grapes undergo classic red wine vinification with maceration for around 10 days, during which fruit expression is extracted through daily pumping over. After gentle pressing, the wines are carefully bottled to remove the coarsest yeasts and then stored stably at Kaltern. Everything is done without the use of sulphur or other oenological aids, which requires the utmost precision in every step of the process.
