Description
La Gauloise Liqueur Bicentenaire Jaune is a traditional French herbal liqueur with over 200 years of history, produced by the Distillerie du Centre in Limoges, France. This yellow version is based on an original recipe dating back to 1783, which is based on over 30 carefully selected herbs, roots and spices. The recipe goes back to the pharmacist Édouard Requier, who used an alchemical plant book - a so-called "grimoire" - as the basis for this complex composition. To this day, the liqueur is still macerated, distilled and processed by hand using traditional methods.
With an alcohol content of 40% by volume, La Gauloise Jaune is softer and sweeter than the green "Verte" version, but remains fully flavoured and complex. The natural colour, herbal character and slightly honeyed sweetness make this liqueur a classic of French spirits art. La Gauloise has been awarded several prizes over the generations, including the gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition and the Medal of Honour in 1900.
