Description
La Gauloise Liqueur Bicentenaire Verte is a traditional green herbal liqueur from France with a strong alcohol content of 48% vol. The spirit is produced by the Distillerie du Centre in Limoges, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, according to a historic recipe from 1783. This recipe is based on an old "grimoire" - an alchemical plant book - which was rediscovered by the pharmacist Édouard Requier. To this day, the liqueur is produced from a secret blend of over 30 herbs, roots and spices and is distilled by hand in an elaborate process.
The "Verte" (green) version is stronger, more aromatic and more bitter than the yellow "Jaune" version and thus epitomises the classic French herbal liqueur style in its full-bodied form. It has won many awards over the centuries, including the Gold Medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition and the Medal of Honour at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris. With its striking, natural colour and intense herbal profile, La Gauloise Verte is one of the most historically significant spirits of its kind.
