The Netzl Carnuntum Pinot Blanc Ried Altenberg 2022 is an elegant Austrian white wine characterised by its terroir, which impressively reflects the uniqueness of the Ried Altenberg in Göttelsbrunn (Carnuntum). The site is characterised by Danube gravel with loess in the subsoil and is located on a cooler gravel hill with an easterly exposure and the formative influence of the nearby forest. The warm Pannonian climate with hot summer days, long late summers and mild autumns ensures fully ripe grapes, while the Altenberg site also retains freshness, lively acidity and a pronounced aroma.


The grapes were selectively harvested by hand on 28 September 2023, with precise whole-cluster and single-cluster selection. The wine was then matured without intervention in used 500-litre oak barrels and in amphorae, where it was left to rest on its lees for 6 months - without racking and only stabilised with the first sulphurisation. This elaborate vinification process gives the wine a fine structure, a creamy texture and a special depth. With an alcohol content of 13.5% vol., it is a long-lasting wine with ageing potential until at least 2033.
