Description
The Gérard Bertrand An 940 Chardonnay 2024 is a fine French white wine from the Languedoc region that pays homage to history with its name. The first traces of the Langue d'Oc can be found in literary texts such as the poem La passion de Clermont as early as the year 940. It later developed into the Occitan language with great cultural significance, which was spread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages by the troubadour movement. This cultural richness is also reflected in the wine tradition of the Languedoc, which is continued today by Gérard Bertrand using modern and sustainable methods.
The grapes for this Chardonnay are harvested at night to preserve their freshness. Gentle pressing in the pneumatic press is followed by Kaltern static pre-clarification. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, and part of the must is matured in barriques to gain additional complexity. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately avoided in order to preserve the vibrancy and freshness. After a light fining, the wine is bottled. With an alcohol content of 13.5 % vol., An 940 Chardonnay combines freshness, elegance and finesse and is an impressive expression of modern Languedoc.
