Description
Description
The Heinrich Chardonnay Leithaberg DAC 2023 is a precise Chardonnay from Burgenland that is characterised by its origin and clearly reflects the special geology and climate of the Leitha Mountains. Rooted in fossil-rich calcareous sandstone and mica schist soils on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains, this wine develops its characteristic tension, depth and minerality. The vineyards are carefully cultivated biodynamically, with a high proportion of manual labour and consistent respect for the natural cycle. The grapes are hand-picked in mid-September and left on the skins for a few hours to deepen their structure and expression. With an alcohol content of 13%, the 2023 vintage is balanced, calm and clearly contoured.
Vinification takes place with spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation, after which the wine matures for over a year on its natural lees in large oak barrels. This gentle ageing process gives the Chardonnay substance, length and elegance without masking its origin. The majority of the grapes come from the Spiegel, Kirchberg and Alter Berg vineyards in Winden as well as Fügler in Jois, supplemented by lots from Edelgraben and Zwe. The Leithaberg DAC stands for clear origin, mineral character and long-lasting structure. The recommended ageing period is until 2029.
