The Borgo Conventi COLLIO Merlot DOC 2022, 13.5% ABV, in a 0.75-litre bottle, is an elegant Italian red wine from the renowned Collio DOC region in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The Borgo Conventi winery has a rich history: the name derives from an ancient legend about a noble landowner, a monk and the plot of land on which the first monastery in the Farra d’Isonzo area was to be built. Its modern history began in 1975 with the founding of the winery by Gianni Vescovo, whose aim was to produce elegant, terroir-driven wines of the highest quality. Since 2019, Borgo Conventi has been part of the Villa Sandi Group and is run by the Moretti Polegato family, who also own the renowned Villa Sandi winery. Following the takeover, investment in the vineyards and cellar technology has been further expanded, whilst the sustainable quality philosophy has been consistently upheld. The result is wines full of character that authentically reflect the distinctive qualities of the Collio terroir.


The 2022 vintage is produced exclusively from the Merlot grape variety. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place at 26 to 28 °C in wooden and stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period of around ten days and regular pumping over to ensure optimal extraction of colour, fruit and tannins. The wine is then aged for at least 10 to 12 months in second-fill French barriques, before further bottle ageing ensures additional harmony. The result is an expressive Collio Merlot DOC that combines elegance, body and a refined structure. Thanks to its ageing potential of eight to twelve years, it continues to develop superbly over many years.
