Description
The Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an intense and powerful Islay single malt whisky with an impressive alcohol content of 57.1 % vol. Named after the infamous Corryvreckan whirlpool, which is located north of Islay between the islands of Jura and Scarba, this whisky epitomises the wild and untamed nature of the Scottish islands. Its deep flavours, paired with an extreme smokiness, make it one of Ardbeg's most impressive whiskies.
The history of the distillery goes back a long way: whisky has been distilled here unofficially since 1794, before John McDougall officially founded Ardbeg in 1815. The name "Ardbeg" means "little hill" in Gaelic and refers to the distillery's geographical location on the rugged south coast of Islay, which is known for its heavily peated whiskies with a maritime character.
The Corryvreckan is matured in a combination of French oak casks and ex-bourbon casks, which gives it an exceptional flavour and complexity. It was originally developed for the Ardbeg Committee members and is now an integral part of the core range. With its explosive intensity and deep flavours, it is a real powerhouse among Islay whiskies and is primarily aimed at lovers of heavily peated and high-proof single malts.
