Description
Description
The Zacapa Edición Negra Sistema Solera Gran Reserva is a first-class Guatemalan rum inspired by the powerful natural forces of the country and the dark fire of its volcanoes. The basis for this exceptional rum is particularly high-quality sugar cane, which thrives under optimal climatic conditions in Central America. A special feature of the production process is the use of "Virgin Sugar Cane Honey", the noble essence of the first pressing, which gives this rum a unique depth and elegance.
The distillates are matured for between six and 23 years in carefully selected barrels that previously contained bourbon, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine. This maturation takes place at 2,300 metres above sea level in the famous "house above the clouds", which slows down the maturation process and intensifies the flavours. At the heart of Zacapa Edición Negra is the traditional Solera process, a centuries-old ageing technique that was originally developed for sherry. Rums of different ages are continuously blended to achieve an incomparable variety of flavours and depth.
The Zacapa Edición Negra is given its final maturation in double-burnt American oak barrels that previously contained American whiskey. This special process gives it its characteristic smoky and spicy flavour, which stands out clearly from the sweet, caramel notes of Zacapa 23. Every step of the production process is overseen by Master Blender Lorena Vásquez, who is internationally recognised for her powerful and expressive rum creations.
