Balvenie 12 Years Old Double Wood is one of the best-known Speyside single malt Scotch whiskies and is regarded as a prime example of the traditional craftsmanship of Balvenie Distillery. With an ABV of 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle, a high-quality gift box (UK) and two original glasses, this set is ideal as a gift for whisky lovers or for sharing. The distillery is one of the few in Scotland that still carries out many classic production steps in-house – from growing some of the barley and traditional malting to operating its own cooperage. This attention to detail shapes the distinctive character of Balvenie.


This single malt Scotch whisky owes its name, ‘Double Wood’, to its two-stage cask maturation. First, the whisky is matured for twelve years in ex-Bourbon casks made from American oak, before being transferred to Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for around nine months. The individual casks are then blended for around three months in large oak casks, known as ‘tuns’, allowing the various flavours to blend harmoniously. The result is an exceptionally well-balanced whisky with delicate notes of honey and vanilla, fruity sherry aromas and elegant spice – a classic that perfectly reflects the character of Speyside.
