The Kuna Panama Aged Ron Davidoff of Geneva Cigar Cask Finish is an exceptional rum from Panama, combining classic rum ageing with a rare cigar cask finish. The base is Panama Rum made from molasses, which is initially aged for over eight years in American oak casks. This is followed by the crucial finishing stage in special casks resulting from a collaboration with Davidoff of Geneva. These are ex-bourbon casks made of American oak, which were previously used by Davidoff for the fermentation and ageing of cigar leaves. Only then are they used for the Kuna’s finish. This unusual cask history lends the rum a distinctive blend of oak, roasted aromas and tobacco notes.

With an alcohol content of 42 per cent, the Kuna Davidoff Cigar Cask Finish is bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle. This bottling is regarded as the predecessor to today’s Kuna Habana Cigar Cask Edition; the producer explicitly describes the Habana version as the successor to the renowned Kuna Davidoff. It is precisely this collaboration with Davidoff – which is no longer continued on a regular basis – that makes this bottling of particular interest to collectors of unusual Panama Rums with special finishes. The combination of eight years’ base maturation followed by a Davidoff Cigar Cask finish clearly sets the Kuna apart from classic cask-aged rums and places particular emphasis on the interplay between rum, wood and tobacco aromas.
