Description
The Tomintoul Distillery, situated in the Scottish Highlands within the Cairngorms National Park and named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, opened its doors in 1964 and is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers.
Situated at an altitude of 370 metres above sea level, Tomintoul is Scotland’s second-highest distillery, surpassed only by the Braeval Distillery, which was founded in 1973. Although the majority of the 3.2 million litres of alcohol produced annually is exported to the United States for use in blends, Tomintoul regularly releases special single-cask bottlings.
The Tomintoul Peaty Tang is currently the distillery’s only whisky produced using peated malt. Although the whisky is rather straightforward and the finish is only of medium length, the smokiness, combined with its youthful freshness, takes centre stage. It is a light whisky that improves the more you taste it and is particularly well suited to the autumn and winter months.
