'El Ron Prohibido Rum Habanero' comes from the Spanish and means 'the forbidden rum'. This is because around the year 1700, chinguirito rum (= distillate made from cultivated sugar cane from Mexico, which was shipped to Spain and stored in sherry barrels) became very popular and naturally the traditional rum producers did not like this. Without further ado, the royal family banned chinguirito (also known as habanero). Only the best sugar cane from Veracruz is used for El Ron Prohibido 22. The number '22' in this rum does not stand for the length of the maturation period but for the 22 American oak barrels used. The Solera production process is responsible for the dark golden colour and the light and soft character.
