Ardbeg is a distillery with a long tradition: whisky had been distilled here unofficially since 1794, before it was officially founded by John McDougall in 1815. The name ‘Ardbeg’ comes from Gaelic and means ‘little hill’, a reference to its location on the south coast of Islay, which is famous for its heavily peated and maritime-influenced whiskies.
