Sierra Tequila Antiguo Añejo 100% de Agave 40% Vol. is an aged 100% agave tequila from Jalisco, produced entirely from the Agave Tequilana Weber Azul. The agaves grow in the Mexican highlands and only reach harvest maturity after around eight to twelve years. Once the agaves have been processed, distillation takes place using the pot still method, with the tequila being distilled twice. The Sierra Antiguo Añejo is then given plenty of time to develop, maturing for 26 months in small oak barrels. This long period of cask ageing creates the characteristic blend of ripe agave fruit, vanilla, spices and oak, whilst the tequila simultaneously develops its warm golden colour. It thus clearly embodies the style of an Añejo tequila made from 100% Blue Weber agave.
Visually, too, the Sierra Antiguo Añejo tequila emphasises its connection to Mexican tradition. The distinctive 0.7-litre bottle features the characteristic gold-coloured Sombrero and intricate glass embossing, the design of which incorporates elements of the Aztec calendar, including a depiction of the sun god Tonatiuh. At 40% ABV, the tequila is full-bodied, yet pleasantly mild and well-balanced. Vanilla and orange blend with clove, pepper and matured oak, whilst the fruity finish harmoniously rounds off the barrel-aged character. The combination of 26 months’ ageing in oak casks, double distillation and the exclusive use of blue Weber agave makes the Sierra Antiguo Añejo 100% Agave an appealing choice both for sipping neat and for sophisticated tequila cocktails.
