Description
Bozal Single Maguey Tobasiche Mezcal combines traditional craftsmanship from Oaxaca with the unique characteristics of the Agave karwinskii, from whose wild variety, Tobasiche, this mezcal is produced. The plant takes around twelve to thirteen years to reach full maturity, which significantly shapes its intense, herbaceous profile. Tobasiche is renowned for its herbal, cedar-like aromas and an earthy finish that reflects the natural depth of this agave variety. This mezcal is produced in Río de Ejutla, Oaxaca, using traditional methods that have been passed down unchanged for over two hundred years. The agave hearts are cooked in earthen pits, then ground using a stone tahona and fermented using natural wild yeasts in an open fermentation process, before undergoing double distillation in copper stills.
This single-maguey mezcal represents an authentic, artisanal style that expresses the essence of the wild agaves with particular clarity. The combination of mineral notes, a subtle sweetness and rich, herbaceous accents gives Bozal Tobasiche its distinctive character. The earth-coloured ceramic bottle with its natural-fibre label is reminiscent of traditional terracotta copitas and emphasises the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship. The name Bozal, which means ‘wild’ or ‘untamed’ in Spanish, refers both to the original growing regions and to the authentic production methods of the local mezcaleros.
