Description
Ondjaba The Namibian Whiskey Classic is an exceptional whisky from Namibia, bottled at 46 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle. Its production combines classic whisky-making methods with ingredients characteristic of this south-west African country. In addition to Namibian grain, mahangu – a type of pearl millet widely grown in Namibia – is used. The smoking process plays a particularly unusual role: instead of traditional peat, Ondjaba uses dried elephant dung, the smoke from which is said to lend the grain a distinctive character. After careful multiple distillation, the whisky is transferred to oak casks, where it matures under Namibia’s climatic conditions and intense sunshine.
This unusual combination sets Ondjaba whisky apart from traditional European or American whisky styles. The use of mahangu and elephant dung smoke deliberately draws on Namibia’s regional characteristics and lends the production an unmistakably African flavour. During maturation in oak casks, the distillate develops additional woody, vanilla and caramel notes, which blend with the subtle smoky character. Ondjaba The Namibian Whisky Classic 0.7 l is therefore of particular interest to whisky enthusiasts who wish to discover exceptional international distilleries, unusual raw materials and distinctive production methods outside the traditional whisky-producing regions.
