The Macallan CONCEPT N° 1 Limited Edition 2018 40% marks the start of an extraordinary series through which The Macallan celebrates visionary ideas, creative boundary-pushing and a deliberately unconventional approach to whisky-making. The first release in the Macallan Concept Series was inspired by surrealist art and was originally launched as a travel retail exclusive. The focus is not only on the striking design, but above all on an unusual maturation concept: the whiskies used were first stored in sherry-seasoned oak casks and then, for an equal period of time, in ex-bourbon casks. In doing so, The Macallan effectively turns the conventional notion of a short finish on its head, making both types of cask equal components of the maturation process. The Concept Number 1 Limited Edition 2018 thus combines the traditional expertise in wood management of the distillery – which has been in operation since 1824 – with a deliberately experimental approach.

At 40% ABV, this The Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky is elegant and multi-faceted, with the character of the sherry casks and the bourbon cask maturation intertwining in perfect balance. Butterscotch, almonds and delicate spices meet citrus fruits, fresh fruit and subtle oak notes, whilst ginger lends the profile an extra dimension.
