The history of Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin dates back to the era of American Prohibition, when alcohol was often produced under rather precarious conditions. At that time, due to the shortage of legally available alcohol, people resorted to using low-quality or even denatured alcohol, which they infused with juniper and other spices in their bathtubs at home. The herbs and spices were left to steep in the alcohol for several days or weeks to improve its flavour and mask its inferior quality. This is how the term ‘Bathtub Gin’ came about.

Ableforth’s Bathtub Sloe Gin is traditionally made from sloes and is refined by the addition of juniper, cinnamon, coriander, cloves and orange peel. This combination gives the sloe gin an impressively distinctive flavour.

This gin once again demonstrates the producer’s extensive expertise in transforming classic ingredients into a modern and flavourfully compelling product.
