Description
The Laphroaig 34 Years Old The Ian Hunter Story Book 4: Malt Master is the fourth instalment in the exclusive Ian Hunter Story series and was released in 2022 as a rare collector’s edition from the historic Laphroaig Distillery on Islay. The series pays tribute to Ian Hunter, one of the most influential figures in the distillery’s history. Book 4: Malt Master commemorates in particular his influence on the establishment and further development of the distillery’s own malting floors, which continue to play a vital role in Laphroaig’s distinctive style to this day. Barley malted on the distillery’s own malting floors was used for this exceptional 34-year-old Islay single malt Scotch whisky. The bottling thus establishes a direct link between Ian Hunter’s historic work and the production methods still practised today.
Laphroaig 34 Years Old Book 4 was initially matured for many years in American white oak casks and then finished in selected Oloroso sherry casks. The exceptionally long maturation period thus combines Laphroaig’s typical maritime and smoky character with the influences of long-term oak maturation and the final sherry cask finish. This rare Islay single malt is bottled at 46.2% in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with high-quality gift packaging. As the fourth release in a series aimed at collectors, this whisky combines a 34-year age statement, floor-malted barley, American white oak and an Oloroso sherry finish to create an exceptional Laphroaig bottling with close ties to the distillery’s history.
