The idea for Gray Whale Gin came about during a camping trip to Big Sur. The producers were struck by California’s breathtaking beauty. In the turquoise sea, they spotted a grey whale with its calf – and that’s how the idea to produce this gin came about. The Golden State Distillery was founded in 2016.

The gin is distilled seven times from maize to guarantee a high-quality product. Selected botanicals are used, sourced either from sustainable farms or from wild harvests.

The sun-dried plants are weighed, inspected and poured directly into the still to release their unique aroma. To preserve the fresh citrus fruits and pine needles, they are placed in a bag which is carefully secured over the copper-coloured stills. Botanical distillation is the final step in the process.
