The idea for Gray Whale Gin came during a camping trip to Big Sur. The producers were impressed by California's breathtaking beauty. In the turquoise sea, they saw a grey whale with its calf - thus the idea for the production of this gin. The Golden State Distillery was founded in 2016.

The gin is distilled 7 times from corn to guarantee a high-quality product. Selected botanicals are used, which either come from sustainable farms or wild collections.

The sun-dried botanicals are weighed, tested and poured directly into the still to release their unique flavour. To preserve the fresh citrus and pine needles, they are placed in a bag that is carefully secured over the copper-coloured stills. Botanical distillation is the final step in the process.
