The Bladnoch LIORA Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky combines two distinct cask characters to create a powerful expression from the Scottish Lowlands. At its heart lies a balanced blend of the intense maturation in new virgin oak casks and the sweeter character imparted by bourbon casks. Whilst the fresh oak casks provide a more pronounced influence of wood and spices, the bourbon casks introduce softer and sweeter notes to the single malt. The interplay between these two cask types forms the basis for the distinctive character of Bladnoch LIORA and demonstrates how careful cask selection can blend different facets of a Lowland whisky.


Another distinctive feature of this bottling is its alcohol strength. LIORA was the first Bladnoch to be bottled at ‘Distiller’s Strength’ of 52.2 per cent. This means the whisky has a significantly higher drinking strength than many of the distillery’s classic standard bottlings, without being labelled as cask strength. The Bladnoch Distillery embodies the long whisky tradition of the Scottish Lowlands and, with this expression, deliberately emphasises the contrast between new oak and bourbon cask maturation. The Bladnoch LIORA 52.2% is available in a 0.7-litre bottle together with a gift box and is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of full-bodied, cask-influenced Lowland single malt Scotch whiskies.
