The distillery’s roots date back to 1886, when Christiano Matthiessen, an engineer originally from Denmark, founded a fazenda in Brazil and later began producing sugarcane distillates. Today, his descendants continue this tradition, producing high-quality cachaça from selected varieties of sugar cane. Capucana Cachaça is produced as a unique blend of various sugar cane distillates and is subsequently matured in ex-American bourbon casks. In addition, it undergoes a special finishing process in casks from the Scottish region of Islay, which previously contained peated malt whisky. This results in a complex and extraordinary interplay of aromas, combining Brazilian fruitiness with subtle smoky notes.
