Riga Black Balsam BLACK is a traditional herbal liqueur with a long-standing history and an unmistakable character. The original recipe was developed in the mid-18th century by the apothecary Abraham Kunze in Riga – originally intended as a remedy, it quickly became a popular drink. In 1781, the balsam even received official approval from the Russian Empress Catherine II, which boosted its popularity far beyond Latvia’s borders. Today, Riga Black Balsam stands as a symbol of Latvian drinking culture and is prized worldwide as an exceptionally flavourful herbal liqueur.

The Black Edition combines the classic herbal profile with a fruity-sweet note and impresses with a harmonious blend of 24 natural ingredients – including lime blossom, birch buds, valerian root, ginger, nutmeg, berries and black pepper. The ageing process in oak barrels gives the balsam its bittersweet depth and characteristic dark colour. With an alcohol content of 35% vol., it develops a pleasant warmth and intense aroma, making it a delight to enjoy both neat and in modern mixed drinks.
