Description
The history of SeRum dates back to the 19th century. It was during this period that the Panama Canal was being built. Many Cubans and people living in the Caribbean died as a result of the harsh working conditions and an outbreak of malaria.
Cuban women added dried fruit and spices to their traditional Panamanian spirits to create a kind of energy drink intended to give the men strength.
Later, these spirits were also administered to treat snake bites and malaria, as they were believed to have healing properties; hence the name ‘SeRum’.
SeRum Puente Centenario was named after the gigantic bridge over the Panama Canal, which reconnects South and Central America.
SeRum was launched to mark the 90th anniversary and invites us to celebrate together and honour this connection.
