Since its foundation in 1793, the Oban Distillery’s picturesque setting and proximity to the harbour in the western Scottish Highlands have made it a magnet for new settlers. Oban, which means ‘little bay’ in Gaelic, has, despite initial challenges, developed into one of the most prestigious and efficient distilleries. With just two stills, Oban produces up to 700,000 litres of spirit annually, making it one of the smallest distilleries in the world – a testament to its excellence and tradition in whisky-making.
The Oban 10 Years Old Special Release is part of Diageo’s 2022 Special Release range. All whiskies in this range are bottled at cask strength.
The whisky is matured for 10 years in American oak casks before being finished in ex-sherry and Amontillado-seasoned casks.
A glowing Aurora Borealis adorns the bottle’s label, accompanied by a hare studded with stars. The image was inspired by the Northern Lights, which are said to have appeared one night above the distillery.
