Description
The Port Charlotte PMC:01 2013 is a heavily peated Islay single malt whisky produced at the renowned Bruichladdich Distillery. The name Port Charlotte refers to the distillery’s intensely smoky whisky range, with each bottling identified by a specific alphanumeric code. The PMC:01 edition is part of the exclusive Cask Exploration Series, which focuses on small batches with distinctive cask maturations. This bottling offers a unique combination of robust peaty smoke and fruity wine cask notes, making it a distinctive treat for lovers of smoky whiskies.
This whisky was distilled in 2013 and initially matured for four years in first-fill bourbon casks, during which time it developed sweet vanilla and oak notes. It was then finished for five years in Pomerol wine casks – one of the most renowned appellations on the right bank of Bordeaux. This exceptional choice of casks lends the whisky a fascinating depth, fruity accents and an elegant structure.
With a phenol content of 40 ppm, this limited-edition whisky embodies the classic, heavily peated Islay profile, whilst remaining wonderfully balanced thanks to the influence of the French wine casks. Its multi-layered aroma reflects the innovative spirit of the Bruichladdich Distillery, which combines modern cask-maturation techniques with traditional Islay whisky-making.
