Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is situated on the edge of a large volcano called Pichincha.

This mountain forms part of the Andes Cordillera and ensures wonderful weather by tempering the hot equatorial winds and creating perfect breezes that can be enjoyed throughout the day.

On this mountain lies an area called ‘Cruzloma’, which has witnessed many of Ecuador’s geographical changes and historical moments.

On the eastern flank of the volcano, the bloody Battle of Pichincha took place on 24 May 1822, an event that defined Ecuador’s independence. This site is also known as “Cruz Loma” (Cross on the Hill).

In the municipality of La Mana in the Cotopaxi region, underground springs were discovered over 100 years ago, from which the volcanic spring water used here originates.
