Description
In 1975, Gérard Bertrand began harvesting grapes at the Château de Villemajou in the Corbières, where he discovered his passion for wine. Over the course of twelve years, he honed his skills alongside his father, Georges Bertrand, until the fourth generation finally carried on the family legacy. Following the tragic death of his father in 1987, Gérard Bertrand took over the family business at the Domaine de Villemajou and founded the Gérard Bertrand wine company. The Gérard Bertrand Group comprises 16 vineyards and 16 châteaux along the French Mediterranean coast, covering a total of 850 hectares. Some of the hand-harvested grapes are aged in 225-litre Bordeaux barrels, whilst the rest are stored in stainless-steel tanks.
Clos du Temple was voted the world’s best rosé wine at the Global Rosé Masters of Drinks Business 2022. The grapes are harvested by hand into crates at sunrise to take advantage of the cooler night-time temperatures, and each plot is harvested at the optimum time and vinified separately. Following low-temperature fermentation, the wine is clarified at between 8 and 10 °C for 24 hours without the addition of sulphites, before being aged in new barrels. These barrels have been carefully selected according to the origin of the wood. This rosé spends six months on the fine lees, with the lees being constantly stirred.
