From 2024, the Plantation brand will be renamed Planteray by Maison Ferrand. This decision reflects the company's endeavour to show sensitivity and respect for historical contexts, particularly with regard to issues such as racial equality, equality and diversity.

The name change aims to make the brand image more modern and cosmopolitan. "Planteray" combines "Plant" for sugar cane and "Ray" for rays of sunshine, which support the growth of sugar cane, and aims to create a positive association without historical baggage. Despite the name change, the flavour and production process of the rums remain unchanged.

After fermentation of the Planteray Rum Spain PX Cask takes two days, it is distilled using the column still method. Planteray Rum Spain is then aged for 11 years and 4 months in 200-litre bourbon barrels in the country of origin before being taken to Maison Ferrand in France, where it is given an eight-month finish in Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels. This finish gives the rum additional depth by adding sweet and rich flavours and rounds off the complex flavour profile.
