Description
Big Peat is a remarkable blend of single malt Scotch whiskies, sourced exclusively from the Scottish island of Islay. This blend combines the sweet notes of Caol Ila, the balanced flavour profile of Bowmore, the medicinal and earthy tones of Ardbeg, and the elegant sophistication of Port Ellen. Together, they embody the unmistakable character of Islay in a single bottle. As part of Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts range, Big Peat symbolises the quintessence of the Scottish whisky region of Islay.
Douglas Laing Big Peat The THROPAIGEACH Edition – which means ‘tropical’ in Gaelic – is the special bottling for 2024, released to mark the Fèis Ìle, the annual Islay Festival. This limited edition is finished in selected ex-rum casks, lending this traditional Islay malt a robust yet tropical character.
The Fèis Ìle, also known as the Islay Festival, attracts whisky enthusiasts from all over the world. It is an annual celebration of the whisky produced on the island and the local culture. During the festival, the distilleries open their doors, offer special tastings and events, and release unique limited-edition bottlings.
The design of this bottling is unique: Big Peat is presented in a pirate-style design, in keeping with the Caribbean rum casks in which the whisky was finished. The bottle label depicts Big Peat surrounded by palm trees, parrots and swords, all rendered in vibrant shades of yellow that emphasise the tropical theme.
Limited to 5,688 bottles worldwide.
