Description
The Tomintoul Distillery, situated in the Scottish Highlands within the Cairngorms National Park and named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, opened its doors in 1964 and is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers.
Situated 370 metres above sea level, Tomintoul is Scotland’s second-highest distillery, surpassed only by the Braeval Distillery, which was founded in 1973. Although the majority of the 3.2 million litres of spirit produced annually is exported to the United States for use in blends, Tomintoul regularly releases special single-cask bottlings.
This limited-edition single malt, distilled at Tomintoul in 2008, spent a total of 15 years in carefully selected casks, thereby achieving its distinctive maturity. Following an initial maturation phase in American oak bourbon casks, which imparted its fundamental flavours, the whisky was given a special finish in selected tawny port barriques.
These casks were personally selected by Master Distiller Robert Fleming to give the whisky additional depth and a distinctive flavour profile. Bottled without the addition of colourings and without chill filtration, this single malt preserves its natural purity and underlines its artisanal quality.
