Description
The history of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, better known as CVNE, began in 1879 in the town of Haro, one of Spain’s most famous wine-producing centres. The company’s initials were used to form its name, but a simple spelling mistake – in which the ‘V’ was mistaken for a ‘U’ – gave rise to the brand name ‘CUNE’. Ironically, this mistake led to the creation of one of today’s leading wine brands on the national market.
The company’s wine production takes place at El Pilar, the first facility in Spain designed specifically for winemaking. The Cune Rioja Reserva is made from grapes sourced from the renowned estates of Caballero, Santo Tomás and Sarnamoros, located in the prestigious Rioja Alta region, in the towns of Rodezno, Villalba and Haro.
The grapes are initially fermented in a 20,000 kg stainless-steel tank. After fermentation, the wine undergoes hot maceration before being left in the tank for 18 months. It then undergoes malolactic fermentation, which gives it a velvety texture. The wine is finally aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, which gives it its complex aroma and balanced structure. These meticulous processes ensure that Cune Rioja Reserva offers an unrivalled tasting experience that delights connoisseurs and wine lovers alike.
