According to legend, the story of the famous Negroni began in 1919, when the charismatic Conte Camillo Negroni walked into Café Casoni in Florence and asked the barman, Fosco Scarselli, to ‘spice up’ his Americano. Scarselli decided to replace the soda in the classic Americano with gin, creating a new, stronger drink.

From then on, the Count always ordered ‘the usual’, and soon afterwards other guests followed his lead by asking for the ‘Conte Negroni-style Americano’. This demand gave rise to the Negroni as we know it today: a cocktail made from bitters, vermouth and gin.
