Description
The Claude Chatelier Extra XO Extra Fine Cognac 40% is an expressive XO cognac from the Charente region of France, produced by Maison Ferrand, which owes its exceptional depth to an exceptionally long period of cask ageing. The eaux-de-vie used are aged for at least 22 years, initially in new Limousin oak casks and subsequently in older ones. This alternation allows the intense influence of fresh oak to integrate harmoniously into the cognac as it matures. Over the course of the long ageing period, alongside fruit and vanilla, spicy woody notes and the ‘rancio’ nuances characteristic of long-aged cognacs develop. As a result, the Claude Chatelier Extra XO is significantly more mature and complex than younger cognacs.
With an alcohol content of 40 per cent, the Claude Chatelier Extra Fine Cognac combines robust cask maturation with a soft and velvety texture. Dried fruit, honey and toasted almonds mingle with vanilla and tobacco, whilst caramel, prune and orange peel add further depth. Cinnamon and subtle oak notes complement the long-lasting character of this matured bottling. It is precisely the combination of many years’ ageing in Limousin oak casks, traditional cognac production and the expertise of Maison Ferrand that makes this French XO cognac an interesting choice for connoisseurs of mature, wood-driven spirits. The 0.7-litre bottle is particularly well-suited to being savoured neat and for occasions where a classic cognac with pronounced mature aromas is called for.
