The Macallan 15 Years Old Double Cask is a 15-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, Scotland, whose character is shaped by the interplay of two different types of oak. For The Macallan Double Cask Collection, sherry-seasoned casks made from American and European oak are used; these are crafted to the distillery’s high quality standards and pre-seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera. The American oak contributes, in particular, creamy vanilla and a lighter sweetness, whilst the European oak provides spice, dried fruit and additional depth. At least 15 years’ maturation give both cask characteristics sufficient time to blend into a well-balanced single malt.

The Macallan Distillery has maintained close relationships with coopers and sherry producers in Jerez for many years and attaches particular importance to the selection and preparation of its oak casks. With The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old, this expertise in cask selection is deliberately the focus. The bottling has a completely natural colour, developed exclusively during cask maturation, and is available in a 0.7-litre bottle with an alcohol content of 43 per cent. Launched in 2016, the Double Cask Collection complements The Macallan’s other cask concepts, combining the classic influence of European sherry oak with the softer sweetness of American sherry oak. The current visual design also picks up on this theme and was developed in collaboration with designer David Carson as an artistic interpretation of cask-making and the art of cooperage.
