The Penfolds BIN 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro 2020, 14.5% ABV, 0.75 l, is a red wine from Australia with a distinctive character, which impressively demonstrates how skilfully tradition and modern winemaking can be combined. The renowned Penfolds winery, founded in 1844 in South Australia, ranks amongst the world’s best-known and most respected producers. With BIN 138, Penfolds pays homage to the classic Rhône blends, which take on a unique character on Australian terroir.


The blend comprises Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre) grapes. The grapes come from old vines, some of which are over 60 years old, and are grown in various vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The wine is aged for around 12 months in a combination of new and used American and French oak barrels. This lends the wine structure, depth and subtle toasted aromas, without overpowering the variety-typical fruit. The result is a complex, dense and multi-layered red wine that impresses with its finesse, spice and elegance.
