The Netzl Carnuntum Pinot Blanc Ried Altenberg 2022 is an elegant Austrian white wine, deeply influenced by its terroir, which impressively reflects the uniqueness of the Ried Altenberg vineyard in Göttelsbrunn (Carnuntum). The vineyard is characterised by Danube gravel with loess in the subsoil and is situated on a cooler, east-facing gravelly hill, with the distinctive influence of the nearby forest. The warm Pannonian climate, with hot summer days, long late summers and mild autumns, ensures fully ripe grapes, whilst the Altenberg site simultaneously preserves freshness, lively acidity and pronounced aromatics.


The grapes were selectively harvested by hand on 28 September 2023, with a precise selection of whole bunches and individual grapes. The wine was then aged without intervention in used 500-litre oak barrels and in an amphora, where it spent 6 months on the lees – without racking and stabilised only with the first sulphur treatment. This labour-intensive vinification process gives the wine a refined structure, a creamy texture and exceptional depth. With an alcohol content of 13.5% vol., it is a wine with great ageing potential, capable of maturing until at least 2033.
