Description
The Dellavalle Grappa Nebbiolo da Barolo Gran Cuvée is one of the characterful cask-aged grappas from the Italian Distilleria Roberto Dellavalle, which offers a whole range of Piedmontese grappa cuvées. In addition to this Barolo variant, the collection includes, amongst others, the Grappa Moscato Gran Cuvée, Grappa Nebbiolo Gran Cuvée and Grappa Barbera Gran Cuvée, through which the distillery provides a diverse overview of Piedmont’s most important grape varieties and flavour profiles. For the Barolo Grappa Cuvée, only freshly harvested Nebbiolo pomace from the famous Barolo wine-growing region is distilled as a single-varietal spirit. Distillation takes place in a particularly aroma-preserving manner in a batch still using a water bath, ensuring that the natural characteristics of the grape variety are fully preserved.
The single-varietal pomace brandy is then aged for two years in Slovenian oak casks before undergoing a further twelve-month finish in barriques. This double cask ageing gives the Gran Cuvée its golden colour, smooth texture and harmonious, mildly spicy character. Bottled at 42 per cent by volume, this grappa displays a balanced blend of aromas typical of Barolo – a delicate balance of acidity, earthy nuances and a subtle fruity sweetness – which are elegantly reflected in the distillate and flatter the palate. The spicy woody notes from the oak casks further round off the flavour profile and give the grappa its long-lasting, harmonious finish.
