Description
The Terra d'Aligi Tatone Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2023 is a characterful Italian red wine from Abruzzo, made from 100 per cent Montepulciano grapes. Its name, ‘Tatone’, stems from regional tradition and is an affectionate term for the grandfather, who represents experience, wisdom and respect within the family. These values are also reflected in the philosophy of the Terra d'Aligi winery, which combines viticultural knowledge passed down through generations with modern winemaking techniques. The grapes come from the estate’s own vineyard, Forca di Lupo, whose limestone and clay-rich soils form the basis for this expressive Montepulciano. Half of the vines are trained on pergolas and half in rows, with a planting density of around 4,000 vines per hectare in the row-trained vineyards.
Following the harvest, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by an extended maceration period to bring out the characteristic qualities of the Montepulciano grapes. The Terra d'Aligi Tatone 2023 is then aged for an extended period in large Slavonian oak casks, before further bottle ageing rounds off its development. This traditional ageing process lends the wine its mature, complex style and underlines its close connection to the wine-growing culture of Abruzzo. With an alcohol content of 14% in the 0.75-litre bottle, the Tatone Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC is a sophisticated red wine, vinified in the style of a Riserva, characterised by its provenance, single-varietal vinification and extended ageing period.
